Every August our family packs it up and takes the long trek to Maine. Something we talk about all year long and can hardly wait for. I've been making this trip since I was in my Mommy's belly. My Dad has been going since he was a baby, so has his Mom, and his Mom's Grandfather (Fredson Reed) was the one that built the cottage and is where Reed gets his name! Much more history than just that, but that can be for another time.
My parents drove up this year as did my Brother, my Sister-in-law, and my Nephews. Bryan and I decided that if there ever was a year to fly to Maine and forgo the 10-12 hour drive, it was going to be this year. I just couldn't imagine Reed loving a super long car ride like that. I stalked flights religiously until I found the best and booked it! It took us an hour and 10 min to get to Maine, what a treat! Reed was an amazing passengar. I nursed him on the way up, he slept for 30 min and played with us for the remainder. I made sure to nurse him on the way down too. This helps the ear popping pain that can occur in babies. I did the same on the way home, except he was extra squealie. He is in the habit of screaming very loud to the point that your ears ring, but its with excitment, nothing sad about it, he just wants EVERYONE to hear him. Bryan and I hung our heads laughing and put our hands over his mouth to somewhat muffle this high pitched sound, but I am sure dogs way beneath us heard him coming. A few apologies and smiles to the other passengars was all it took, they thought it was "cute" or so they said.....he was happy, so I was happy!
Maine is obviously a special place for us and I couldn't wait for my Reed to see it for the very first time. It's safe to say that Reed had an awesome vacation; he was silly happy, super smiley, and full of ear ringing squeals everyday!
Enjoy the vacation happiness that follows.....
